Pinned It, Did It Monday! {felt nativity and giveaway}

giveaway Welcome to Pinned It, Did It Monday.  This is the place where I share some of the things I’ve done around here that have been inspired by Pinterest.   pin #1I have been wanting to do something like this for awhile this Christmas season.  Most people are making these adorable felt Christmas trees for the kids to decorate.  And don’t make this feel bad.  I would have done a Christmas tree.  Really.  Except I had all the big pieces of brown, but no big piece of green.  So I went with the nativity instead so I could keep the cost of this free for me.

My Pictures:  Please excuse the awful flash pictures.  It’s been a dreary weekend!IMG_9297 IMG_9294 IMG_9295 My review:  This is amazing!  She has every single piece on the pattern for you.  So all I did was print and cut and glue.  There was no cow, so of course I had to find another pattern for him because our stable needs a cow. :)  He played with it a ton and especially liked the presents the wise men had.  Don’t mind how bubbly the stable looks, I just attached it with tape for short term.  Tomorrow I’m off to the store to find a more “temporary permanent” way.  I look forward to reading the Christmas story and acting it out.  My mom also used the pattern to cut them out for their Sunday School.

But wait, have you made it this far?  Do you want a felt nativity set for your house?!  For free?!  I’m serious!

All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and tell me what your favorite holiday tradition is in your family.  And you will be entered to win a felt nativity set made by me.  You won’t get much use out of it before Christmas this year as it will get to right around then.  But next year, it will be all ready to pull out and attach to the wall.

So leave a comment.  Come on, do it.  I know I have a lot of silent readers out there.  :) The giveaway will be open until this Thursday, December 13th at midnight.  Friday morning, I’ll pick and announce one winner. Good luck!

Happy 1/2 Birthday Owen!

pool-1795-2As of tomorrow, this sweet little guy is exactly 2 1/2.  When he gets to be in school someday, I anticipate this is when we’ll celebrate his birthday at school with treats and such, as his real birthday will be after they get out of school.  So here’s a little info about our little man and what he’s currently up to.  And you get a little sneak peak at the pictures my sister did for us on Thanksgiving.   They will all be up soon!   pool-1762Food wise, he is still a devoted dairy lover.  Cheese, yogurt, milk, ice cream.  Loves it all.  Favorite fruits are still raspberries followed closely by pomegranates now that they’re back in season and coming down in price!  Loves pastrami and hot dogs, but doesn’t really care for chicken or chicken nuggets at all.  Loves carrots and sometimes peas, but veggies are definitely things I have to hide in other foods to be sure he gets some.pool-1859 pool-1861 pool-1863 pool-1868He’s a momma’s boy.  And I love it.  Don’t get me wrong, he loves time with dad.  But at the end of the day, I’m still his favorite. :)   pool-1869He’s a cuddler and touch is definitely one of his love languages.  He still plays with my hair when he gets sleepy. pool-1894Overall, he’s doing pretty good with sleep.  He still sometimes gets up once or twice, but he knows we will just come in quickly and check on him.  pool-1897 He still sleeps with his paci, Leo the Lion, and 2 other bears. This boy rocked potty training.  He never, not once, had a accident in public which this mama is so happy about.  He still wears diapers for nap and bedtime, but other than that is doing awesome going to the bathroom all day, everyday.  We just need to phase out the skittles. Haha.pool-1898 He spends his time playing cars and trucks.  Occasionally trains make an appearance, but match box type cars are definitely the preference around here.  He also still adores to read, play and listen to music, do puzzles, draw and color, and run around like a crazy boy.  He still asks to play on his “new” swing set almost everyday. pool-1900 His vocabulary continues to impress me as sentences are becoming longer and he comes up with words I had no idea he knew.  He sings the whole alphabet song, can count to 14 and can recognize a few letters.  Instead of saying their names, he says the words associated with them. For example, I show him E and he says Ellie.  Or a G and he’ll say Grandma.  I guess technically this is harder skill and someday he’ll know the letter names.pool-1901In general, he’s pretty introverted although I’m wondering if we’re going to have a tougher time with age 3.  He’s been showing a few more colors of a rambunctious side lately. pool-1902He loves his sister and attacks her regularly with kisses and hugs.  He praises her when she claps her hands or crawls.  The only thing is that he’s been getting much rougher with her as she gets bigger.  He likes to jump “over” her and lay on her.  She just giggles so I think it encourages him.  He’s had several time outs for this lately.pool-1923 His favorite TV shows include Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, SuperWhy, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, and Arthur.  Current favorite movies we get from the library are Singing Time and the So Smart Series.pool-1997He likes to be Mr. Independent these days.  He goes up and down the stairs without holding onto anything.  He likes to zip up his own pajamas and tries to pull up his pants and put in his socks.  He enjoys taking his own bib off and get down from his chair.  He basically thinks he’s big stuffpool-1735 pool-1740This little man knows and loves his Grandma, Grandpa, MeMaw, and PaPaw.  I love how he know who they are when we talk about them and gets super excited about talking to them on the phone or going to visit.   At my parents, he makes himself at home the minute we get there by running down to the basement to start lining up the cars.

And that’s a wrap.  He is seriously one of the best things in my life.  I’m so thankful I get to be this little man’s momma.  I can’t wait to see who he grows up to be!

Christmas Cards 2012!

I love Christmas cards!!  I love receiving them and giving them.  (see here for how I display them and keep them after the holiday is over).  I was pretty sad that I didn’t think our budget would allow for nice cards this year.  But enter: Cardstore.    Since many people have started to get them, here’s our card for this year.  And yes, the full photo shoot will be up soon.Fullscreen capture 1292012 50014 PM.bmpThis place isn’t quite as nice as Shutterfly or my favorite, Tiny Prints, but it does have a pretty good selection.  But here’s the best deal, I got them 75% off and THEY PUT THE STAMP ON THEM FOR FREE.  Seriously folks, I didn’t use all caps for nothing.  I entered in every person’s address (ok, kinda annoying but we’re talking cheap here folks) and had them mail them to everyone.   Talk about no work. Here’s the actual screen shot of my order.  I ordered 65 cards.  My total went from $122.85 to $30.74.  But then THEY STAMPED THEM FOR ME.  That would have been another $29.25 for me that I got for free.  Fullscreen capture 1292012 72944 PM.bmpHere’s the one I sent to myself just to be sure everything was legit.  They printed the addresses and even used a real {cow} stamp.  IMG_9291This deal is still going on if you haven’t done your cards yet due to the money.  Pick out your card and enter THANKS4U or CCP2470 as your coupon code and you’ll get the amazing discount.  And make sure to send one to me. :)

And no, I didn’t get paid to write this.  Just a pleasantly surprised customer.

Ellie is crawling!

Owen didn’t start crawling until 11 months, so I had a hard time believing that Ellie was beginning to crawl about a week ago.  She had been getting around fine by rolling and pushing herself backwards but then the inching forward began.  As of last night, she definitely has a good forward army crawl going on and she’s not quite 8 months yet.  Guess she’s got a big brother to keep up with.

Bear Hunt!

This morning I wasn’t feeling too hot and was desperate to get the boys doing something that didn’t involve running around the house or throwing cars at each other.  So I pulled out one of my CD’s from teaching.  Then we whipped up some binoculars by stapling together two toilet paper tubes and tying some sting on them.  Then we listened to the song while looking at the book of the song. You can download and print this book for free so you wouldn’t even need the song to go with it. After “going on a bear hunt” we ended by having snack in the bear cave which I made by throwing a few sheets over the kitchen table.  They are now playing happily in the cave while I sip on some hot tea.  I’m sure this will last for about 5 more minutes. :)IMG_9279IMG_9282 IMG_9278  blog-signature-1

Pinned It, Did It Monday! {fleece pants and thank you printable}

pinned itWelcome to Monday’s Pinned It, Did It where I try to implement some of the ideas that are floating around Pinterest.  This week was a little sewing project and a simple way to say thanks to a teacher or really anybody!pin #1My friend, Sara pinned this and made a cute pair for Liana.  She said they were super easy, so I thought I’d give them a shot.

My pictures: the pink pair is Sara’s and the brown pair is mineIMG_9771photo-002My review: This was a super simple pattern and they turned out so cute for my guy.  I love having a stash of comfy pants for him to play in and now I may have to make one of these in every color imaginable!  I do like the large hem at the bottom like Sara did, but I realized I should have cut mine longer to start with.  So I did the smallest hem possible to give him more length.  And of course when I went to put in the elastic, I only had 1/2'” instead of the recommended 1” so the waistband is also smaller than I would have liked.  Oh well, they were about $1.50 to make.  That’s my kind of price for play pants.pin #2
We wanted to get Mr. Bob, Owen’s music teacher a small card to say thanks.  The admin assistant there told me he goes over to County Market all the time to visit Caribou Coffee.  So this pin made my job easy.

My pictures: IMG_7624 This is what he did when I asked him to hold it for me.  He literally turned around.  Little bugger.IMG_7625 Heading in to give it to Mr. Bob.IMG_7626My review: This was so easy and cute.  I just printed the printable and backed it with a little cardstock.  Then, William brought home some coffee sleeves from Espresso Royale where he frequents regularly.  I glued the sides and bottom down leaving the top open to insert a coffee gift card.  I wrapped some green yarn around it for an extra little touch.  So cute.

music class Saturday

Yesterday morning,Owen and I headed out for our music class date.  We made a quick stop at County Market before class and "rode" on the tractor.
This was the first music class that Owen really participated in while we were in class.  He sings the songs all week, but is usually pretty shy while IN class.  It was a super fun class.  Only one more to go for this semester.

And 2 pretty boring videos of the day:
