Pinned It, Did It {file tubs and recipes}

pinned it
I’ve done quite a few projects lately so I’m feeling the need to resurrect my Pinned It, Did It Mondays.  Yeah yeah I know it’s Friday.  I’m working through a huge list of blogs to catch up on and this was an easy one to write today.  Pinned It, Did It is where I actually take some of the things I’ve found on Pinterest, put them into action, and then review them for you.
pin #1
Oh how I love January organization.  I’ve been itching to start on the little man’s room but right now the entire contents of our basement are in there, so I can’t do anything.  So I’m just working on a few small projects until I can go organizing crazy!  I pinned this a year or so ago and finally just did it!  Memory Boxes - Great idea to organize kids paperwork, school work, pictures, etcSource: Baby Boxes from Destination of Domestication
My pictures:IMG_0845 My review: I bought 7 of these tubs from Wal-Mart. 3 for kids and 4 for some of my school/home files.  I bought several large packs of file folders (yes this took my entire “home” budget for several months.)  For my kid’s boxes, I made folders with the labels:
  • Baby Information
  • Health Records
  • Documents & Certificates
  • Age 0-3
  • Age 4-5
  • Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade
  • Lots of extra blank ones for things I didn’t think of
Then I just cut their names out of vinyl and done!  Now no more searching through all my piles files to try and find something.  Each kid has their own tub where I can throw everything pertinent to them!
pin #2While I’ve made it known that cooking is not my forte, it has been nice to finally feel well enough to make something for my family.  Here’s a few recipes that we’ve enjoyed the last month:Prepare a delicious holiday feast with inspiration from our 20-plus Christmas dinner menus. Each menu features a main course paired with two or three side dishes to jump-start your Christmas meal planning.Source: Coffee Crusted Beef Tenderloin from Better Homes and Gardens
My review: Sad, no picture, but this was fabulous!   I made this for our Christmas dinner and it got rave reviews from myself and William (kids wouldn’t touch it).  Now, I did try it later with a not-so-good cut of meat and I learned my lesson not to do that again.

Eat Yourself Skinny!: Better-than-Chipotle Bowl...yummy
SourceBetter Than Chipotle Bowl from Eat Yourself Skinny
My picture:Picture 1708My Review: I love Chipotle so I can’t say this was better than Chipotle.  It doesn’t have quite the kick that they get into their salads.  But this was really good!  I love cilantro so this was right up my alley.  William ate it with chips like a salsa and I just ate mine right out of the bowl like a salad.  Definitely worth keeping this pin.pin 4 IMG_5395

My picture: Picture 1665My review:  yummy!  It’s definitely a little sweet and I only used about half the brown sugar.  Next time, I’d use only about 1/3.  But served over rice, William definitely approved.  And as you can tell by my pictures, I threw in a few extra veggies into mine.

Happy cooking!

Pinned It, Did It Monday {food tricks & a little bag}

pinned itWhat is this you say?!  Welcome back to Pinned It, Did It Monday.  Just for this week folks.  And maybe you’ll see this pop up a little more this summer as our schedule is just full of fun things!  If you’re new to the blog (welcome!) Pinned It, Did It Monday is where I share a few of the things I’ve actually DONE from Pinterest.  It’s a site that can suck you into hours of just looking at good ideas.   But I want someplace to be accountable to actually doing some of them. :)pin #1Picture I pinned:
Source: The Fastest Way to Peel Garlic from Holiday Sparkle
My review: No picture for me on this one, but you will  definitely want to click on this pin or link and follow the simple directions.  I was shocked that I literally had an entire head of garlic peeled in minutes.  It definitely worked and so simple.  I love garlic, but hate the time it takes to peel it, so I will use this over and over!pin #2As summer is upon us, we love us some good sweet corn.  But I do hate the process of shucking it and getting all those pesky hairs off.  Then I saw this idea.  And my life will never be the same.

My picture:Picture 643
My review: Ummm. . .amazing!!  I simply followed all the directions and in just a few minutes, and only one cut with my knife, I had perfectly cooked sweet corn with none of the mess.  It cooks in the microwave, in the husk, and then slides out with a little help.  How am I just now figuring this out.  Seriously, if you eat corn on the cob, follow these directions!!pin 3As a car-loving boy, Owen always has problems of carrying his most loved cars (of the hour) from one place to another.  We carry them from room to room and upstairs and down after nap.  So I wanted a quick easy bag for him to throw some cars in.

Pinned It, Did It Monday {heart painting}

pinned itIt’s Monday.  How the heck did that happen?  How do days drag by so slowly sometimes, but yet the weeks fly?  I have one measly little thing to show you that was inspired by Pinterest this week.  I’m speaking at Mom2Mom tomorrow, so this week has been filled with prepping for that a a little crafting which I’ll show in my next post.pin #1I’m not a huge celebrator of Valentine’s Day.  I suspect I will love it more as Owen reaches the age where we can make adorable valentines inspired from Pinterest, but this year I’m kind of. . .ehh about it.  But when Sam comes over, I’m always trying to keep the two 2 year olds from killing each other and ripping apart my house, so we did this cheap and easy project.

My Pictures:IMG_0145 IMG_0139 IMG_0141 IMG_0143My review: I mean, how easy is squeezing a toilet paper tube and dipping it in some paint?  Cute and effective.
But to make this post a little less pathetic, here are two more links you might enjoy.  I plan on making these teething biscuits for Ellie this week.  And here’s a great list of things you can freeze.  Great way to stock up when things are on sale!

Pinned It, Did It Monday

pinned itWelcome to pinned it, did it Monday (it’s still Monday for a couple more hours here) where I share a few of the things that have inspired me from pinterest this week.pin #1 L asked for a sock monkey hat for her daughter and I had been itching to try this cute pattern:
Source: Crochet Sock Monkey Hat from Repeat Crafter Me
My picture:IMG_0115My review: I love this gal’s patterns.  They are easy to follow and always produce nice results.  I made a mistake that I realized towards the end and had to rip a bunch out, so the hat took about twice as long as it should have.  But that was totally my fault.  Love how cute it is and hope it fits the recipient!pin #2I had seen this pin floating around Pinterest for awhile.  It’s a site dedicated to making healthier and “real” versions of a bunch of kid’s processed foods.  Now, let me preface that I probably have frozen corn dogs in my freezer somewhere and do not feel the least bit guilty for giving them to my boys.  But I decided to dip my toe into the water of healthier cooking.  haha
Source: Corn Dog Days of Summer from Out of the Box Food
My pictures: the ingredients (I didn’t go all crazy and buy new corn meal, mine is supposedly no good nor did I buy aluminum free baking powder. I just used what I had on hand.)Picture 470 right after frying:Picture 472My Review:  I’ll admit to not being a huge corn dog fan.  But I must say, these were pretty darn good!  I have no idea how she got her batter to look so nice and smooth.  I cut the batter recipe in half and it made 5 corn dogs.  It was pretty quick, and after frying I just heated them in the oven for about 10 minutes to get the hot dog nice and hot.  William definitely approved!  I think I’ll be checking out some of her other recipes!pin 3Since starting my “diet”, I’ve been eating lots of chicken and using my George Forman a lot!  This was a cleaning tip I found.  The tip reads: “Right after using the grill, unplug it and place a wet double-sheet of paper towel between the lid and the surface. The leftover heat causes the towel to steam and clean the grill. Wiping it dry with another paper towel is all that’s needed.”

Source: Tip of the Week from Cooking Club
My Review (no pictures):  While it wasn’t perfect, it was DEFINITELY less scrubbing than I normally have to do.  Will be doing this on all future grilling!

Have a great week everyone!

pinned it Welcome to Pinned It, Did It Monday where I show you some of the things from Pinterest I actually did this week!pin #1I’m always on the lookout for cute, free hat patterns.  Love this gal’s website!
Source: Mickey and Minnie Mouse Hats from Repeat Crafter Me Me
My picture: IMG_0077 My review: such a cute hat and it was a VERY simple pattern!  Perfect for a Mickey Mouse baby shower I was attending. pin #2I’ve been on a recent kick to update my makeup a bit and buy some more “grown-up” products.  But I don’t really have the budget to overhaul everything.  Enter this site.

My Review: Amazing site for finding cheaper versions of expensive makeup.  Used it to buy the eyelid primer pictured and a new lipstick this week.pin 3

My Review: a short video on how to tie this cute scarf.  I used it this week but didn’t get any pictures.
