my kids are growing up

Just a super short post to say my kiddos are growing too fast.  Owen is a rock star on the potty and I'm almost ready to try nighttime.  He also loves to fit in some reading whenever he can.

And guess who went to the nursery this past Sunday and childcare during Mom2Mom?  That's right, this girl.  I went and checked on her several times, and turns out, she didn't need me. {tear}  No really, I was super happy that she did awesome.  Looking forward to actually hearing the message on Sundays and enjoying my mom friends at Mom2Mom!

our week

Whew, bad blogging week.  I’m trying to stay off the computer this week to make sure this potty training thing is really sticking.  With the risk of what happens when you post something online, I’m going to say that Owen is pretty much trained.  Seriously, this kid made it easy.  I am so proud of Owen.  He’s even been waking up from naps with a dry diaper and staying dry when we go out in public.  Way to go little man!

So what have we been up to this week?  Sunday was church with this cutie:Picture 418 Then some fun counting and singing with dad:

Monday was just some hanging out.  Ellie is really a messy eater.  She will not let you just put the food in her mouth.  She has to hold the spoon and then shove her whole hand in too.  We’ve resorted to stripping her down and her chair no longer has the cover on it.  Monday afternoon, we took a meal to Tosha and Norm who just welcomed their #3, sweet Melody.Picture 427Wednesday, we headed to campus to the Language Acquisition Lab.  Owen participated in a short video study again.  He walked right in and had no problems talking to the nice ladies.  We talked in the morning about being friendly, not shy. :)  Then we headed off to Old Navy to look for some clothes for our picture shoot with my sister in 2 weeks!!!  Cannot wait!  Owen was excited to get a balloon.Picture 422Today, we hung out with Sam! Picture 430 Since we’ve been stuck inside due to the dreary weather, we busted out the paint today and made these cute turkeys.  The feathers are their hands and the brown turkey are their footprints.  Both boys did great, even with the tickling aspect of getting their feet painted.  Then we glued on some googly eyes and a beak.  Yes, we made a huge mess, but had lots of fun!Picture 433blog-signature-1

Pinned It, Did It Monday {potty training, monster hat, & iPhone}

pinned itWelcome back to Pinned It, Did It Monday where I show you some of the things I’ve actually done from Pinterest.  I haven’t been on Pinterest much just due to busyness, so I’m trying to go back and look through all the pins I marked way back when I first learned about this online peg board of amazing ideas.pin #1Picture I Pinned:

My Review: No pictures for this one as I just posted them yesterday. :)  I read LOTS of things on potty training.  This was one I enjoyed.  Short and sweet and right along the way we’ve been doing it.  Good tips.pin #2Picture I Pinned:

My PicturesIMG_8835 IMG_8837IMG_8846IMG_8825My review: I’ve been wanting a fun “boy” hat and this really did the trick.  It was a great pattern, even for a beginning crocheter.  Owen loved it and wouldn’t take it off.  Wish I would have put my horns a little closer together, but oh well.pin 3I’m always a sucker for pins that simplify my phone and teach me some new cool tricks that it can do.

My review: no pictures of course.  But I learned a couple new tricks for my operating system that I didn’t know before.  Primarily the one that’s in the picture.  Love being able to text back quickly to a phone call or having a reminder to get back to a phone call quickly.

Potty Training!

Photo: And here we go. Lord help us. :) http://instagr.am/p/Rh6WT2jMCO/So I promised my sister not to post on facebook about how Owen is doing with potty training.  But I have to give a blog update, just so I can remember what I did.  In a nutshell, it’s going so much better that I ever thought it would.  I’m actually kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Friday
We were going to start on Thursday, but he was a wreck from staying up late and all the candy and excitement  from Halloween, so we waited until Friday.  We had been talking it up all week and Thursday night, laid out his underwear, sticker chart, and treats.  He chose Skittles at the store and I also got a pack of matchbox cars for the first few poops.

For most of the day, I tried hard just to learn how best to help Owen and what his “currency” was in getting him motivated.  Right off the bat, he wanted underwear on instead of being naked, so wore a shirt and just underwear all day.  I pumped him full of apple juice which he was delighted to partake in.  At first, he had 2 small accidents and freaked out a bit.  But once he was reassured that it was ok, we spent a lot of time just hanging out on the potty reading books.  (He gets 1 skittle for trying, 2 skittles for pee, and 3 skittles and a car for poop).  I started by taking him every 30 minutes or so and realized pretty quickly that it was stressing him out.  He started crying and refusing to sit on the toilet.  He likes the seat on the big toilet as opposed to his little potty.  So I eased up and just would ask him without taking him in the bathroom.  Within the  next 2 hours, he said “mommy pee” so we ran to the bathroom and he went.  We made a huge deal about it, he picked out a car, and we called William and Aunt Jenna.

So for our first day, we ended up with 2 large accidents, 3 pees in the potty, and even a poop.  We had a few dribbles in his underwear, but I kept telling him he was doing a great job learning how to stop the pee.  I’m doing a diaper for naps and bedtime and his diaper was pretty wet after nap, so I knew he was still holding it quite a bit.photo-2Saturday
We let him sit in his jammies for a bit when he got up as it was cold and he was tired so I missed that first morning pee opportunity.   While Daddy was in charge while I was dealing with Ellie’s first nap, he had a accident.  But after that, he was dry ALL day.  We have music class on Saturday mornings and I didn’t want him to miss.  So we braved going out in public.  We went right before we left and I asked him a million times while we were there.  I tried to get him to go there, but no luck.  But he went when he got home.  And his naptime diaper was much dryer than Fridays.  No poop on Saturday, so I hope he doesn’t try and hold that in.  I’m learning that cars are a much better motivator for him than the candy.  But he does enjoy calling family members to show off his new cars and tell them what a big boy he is.photo-1photoSunday
Today, we decided to brave church.  He went pee right before we left, but as we were driving to church started making the tale-tell poop signals.  We stopped at a gas station, but he wasn’t having it.  We tried again at church with no luck.  I told his teacher to page me if he had any accidents.  But he stayed dry all of class and went with me right after service.  His naptime diaper was dry and he went on the potty right when he got up!  An accident free day!  But no poop again today so I’m praying it happens tomorrow or I may need to give him some diaper time.  I also bought another potty seat so I don’t have to drag the one up and down depending on where we’re playing.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with the progress.  My carpet was prepared for much more pee than it’s seen.  Thank goodness!  I’m so proud of my little guy.  And ohh those bunsies in underwear are so cute!
