4th of July!

We had a fabulous 4th of July weekend.  The weather was gorgeous and we had just the right amount of activities planned.  Thursday morning, we started getting in the spirit with a Pinterest inspired activity.  I taped together bendable straws and they dipped them in paint and made “fireworks.”Picture 1839Picture 1838Friday morning we got all the crazies dressed in their red, white, and blue and then it was off the parade.  Picture 1865It was much cooler than last year and we found a shady spot, so that made it much more enjoyable.  The parade is nothing to write home about, but the kids enjoyed the fire trucks, the few horses, and the few large inflatables.Picture 1868    Love her little skirt and headband:Picture 1857 Picture 1861Owen was a little bored except when they threw out some candy: Picture 1855I love how smiley this little guy is becoming.  I don’t know what to do with a boy who smiles!Picture 1873Picture 1877We didn’t have any other plans so we spent the day just hanging out and enjoying having William home.  Saturday morning, we enjoyed another gorgeous day and took a long family walk.  We got everyone (including Owen) to take decent naps as we knew it’d be a long night.  Picture 1886After naps, we packed everyone up and headed to Tuscola where Owen’s best buddy Sam and his family live.  We ate an awesome dinner and the boys had a blast playing with each other.  We also finally got a picture of Miles and Jack – maybe future bff’s? Picture 1898Picture 1904At about 8 we drove over to Tuscola’s park area – it had a pool, park, baseball fields, etc.  We really could not have asked for a better experience.  Our vans are literally 5 feet away (in case of babies waking up or Ellie getting scared).  We were one of maybe 6 families on this whole field.  The kids played with their glow sticks while it got dark.  I brought things to make snack necklaces (a piece of yarn with things like fruit loops, butter cookies, pretzels, etc to string on).  That went over like a lead balloon.  They just ate the snacks.Picture 1919 Picture 1920 Picture 1921Picture 1918I was pretty nervous about how Ellie and Miles would do.  But it was awesome.  Ellie covered her ears for the first half, but then forgot about it and seemed fine.  Miles literally slept the whole time, and the whole way home too!  The show was great for a small town and the perfect length.  And getting out of the park only took about 15 minutes.  So much smoother than I think it would have gone at Memorial with the huge crowds.  I definitely think we’re going to make this a yearly tradition with the Bubbs!  Happy 4th of July everyone!

Happy Easter!

Easter was such a fun weekend this year.  Along with celebrating Ellie’s birthday, we of course had to do the classic egg hunt.  My mom went totally overboard and the kids bags were stuffed!IMG_1844 IMG_1847 IMG_1850 IMG_1851Inside lots of the eggs were pictures of bigger gifts that wouldn’t fit.  They got so spoiled with sidewalk chalk, playdoh, and lots of other goodies!IMG_1858No pictures of our afternoon, but we broke tradition and ate dinner together on Saturday!  It made it so much easier on our schedule because we didn’t have to get home late on Sunday evening.

Sunday morning was the usual chaos of getting two kiddos ready for church and trying to squeeze in some pictures before they ruin their clothes. :)  Here’s a close up of Ellison’s outfit.  My mom bought her dress and of course I had to go a little more over-the-top with her bow.Picture 1811 My gorgeous little girl.IMG_1913Getting these two crazies to look at the camera is next to impossible these days!IMG_1923 Aww, a rare sweet hug.IMG_1930And it’s time to run.IMG_1942IMG_1961IMG_1973The best shot we could get of our (almost) family of 5.IMG_1981And an adorable picture of my brother and sister-in-law Kara!IMG_1985Even though we missed Casey and Jenna, it was a great little weekend with our awesome family.

the great egg hunt

This morning was our first egg hunt of the year.  Our church hosted it’s first egg hunt and we had a blast!  We ate donuts, milk, and coffee and got entered for all the giveaways.  Then we headed into the main auditorium for a dramatic telling of the Easter story with neat video.  Owen actually stayed very “tuned in” to the story.

Then we all headed outside to where they had 2 areas roped off depending on the kiddos ages.IMG_9515IMG_9510 The Easter bunny waved a welcome at everyone.IMG_9512The kiddos got their cute bags ready.  IMG_9508And then they were off.  Luckily we were on the not crowded side and they got quite a few eggs before they got rushed with more kids.mThen we opened all the eggs and returned them (so they could reuse them next year) and went to collect the few prizes they earned.IMG_9520All in all, a really great event.  Especially for the first one ever at church!

Christmas Card 2013

Without my sister nearby, I enlisted the help of photographer Brad Hart to do a few Christmas Card pictures.  The night before/morning of our shoot there was a huge blizzard.  Our streets weren’t plowed so we couldn’t get out.  Brad was able to drive his 4 wheeler over and grab a few pictures for us in the freezing cold. :)
And here is the card we ended up with from these great shots:
Merry Christmas!

Halloween Recap

It was a fun fall week!  In school, we focused on the letter P and did all kinds of fall and pumpkin activities (and counting pennies below).Picture 1553 We carved several pumpkins and saved one for when our buddy Sam came to play.Picture 1489 Picture 1512We had 2 grasshoppers that seemed to enjoy our pumpkins on the front porch.Picture 1480 Picture 1481 We also learned about our bones made Mr. Skeleton.  I cut, he glued. :)Picture 1555 We enjoyed the warmer than normal October weather a few days before Halloween.Picture 1536 Picture 1544After last year’s amazing costumes, and with how lousy I was feeling, I decided to take it easy and do store bought costumes this year.  Wouldn’t you know that we got almost more compliments on my matching cows than the ones I (and my mom) spent hours sewing.  haha.  Owen wore Ellie’s costume from his first Halloween and I found his costume for $3 at a garage sale.  Score! Picture 1563IMG_9405 IMG_9410We walked across the street to Prairie Fields to participate in their little parade around the neighborhood.IMG_9417 IMG_9422 IMG_9425It was a little drizzly, but the downpours we’d had all day stopped before we left and didn’t start again until we got home.  Perfect!  Owen totally got it this year and Ellie had no fear walking up, holding out her basket and saying “trick or treat.”Picture 1571They got quite a loot for how many houses we made it to.  I’m looking forward to helping them eat it. :)  Ellie had quite the fun time and was pretty tuckered out at the end of the evening!Picture 1573
