Happy 7 Months!

IMG_9058So she’s really almost 7.5 months, but shhh she’ll never know I posted this late. :)  I hate that 7 months means we’re on the downhill slope to being 1.  Not yet, not yet.  It’s going too fast.

No weight stats as we just did a quickie vaccine appointment and Owen was so grumpy that I didn’t have them weigh her.  She’s definitely smaller than Owen who was already 20 lbs at this point!  We had already transitioned him to his bigger car seat.  But even though she’s heavy, the bucket seat is still working for a bit longer.  I like being able to throw blankets over her instead of bundling her up when we go outside.  IMG_9068New Things She's Learning/Doing: We're starting to hear tons more consonant sounds in her talk.   There are times I swear she is saying mama, mama.  Her sweet little girly voice just melts my heart.  Although she still has a very loud screech going on sometimes.  She sits, can get down back onto her belly, and is a rolling machine.  She can get exactly where she needs to go by rolling or scooting backwards and I don’t think it will be but a few more days before she’s crawling!  She’s banging toys together and is clapping her hands so adorably.  She is also starting to let Owen know that she is not happy with him when he takes away a toy from her.IMG_9069 Sleep: Well, I think I jinxed myself by thinking she was going to be a better sleeper.  Well, during the day time she is.  She takes 3 naps that are pretty predictable and just jabbers for awhile and puts herself to sleep.  Night time has moved up quite a bit and usually she needs to be in bed by 6 or 6:30.  She does a good stretch until 10 or 11, but then she thinks she’s a newborn and gets up every 2 hours wanting to “eat.”  Uggh, gotta change this somehow!IMG_9071Food:  Well, we took a week or so off of food because the poor thing got sick.  Runny noses and coughs from babies are so awful. So she didn’t have much of an appetite and I wanted to pump her full of breast milk, so just in this last week, she’s started eating “solids” again.  Pretty much loves it all so far and is still the messiest eater I’ve ever seen.IMG_9098Randoms:  Still loves loves loves her brother.  Opens her mouth to give “kisses.”  And still keeps her headbands on.  That’s my girl!IMG_9055 Love you so much Ellison Jakeh!!IMG_8962IMG_9048 blog-signature-1

Happy 6 Months!

IMG_8241My sweet little girl is 6 months old (well, a few weeks ago).  A half a year.  Whew that went fast.   The first birthday party may already be in the planning stages.  She is developing such a sweet little personality and for the most part is a happy little girl!IMG_8201The Stats: This was a week ago or so, but she’s growing great.  She’s 16lb 12.5 oz (75th percentile) and 26.5 in (75th percentile).  Her head continues to be the perfect knitting head model at 42.5 cm and exactly the 50th percentile.  IMG_8210Milestones:  She’s been sitting up for about 3 weeks now completely by herself.   She loves the freedom this is bringing her.  I think Owen thinks she’s a big kid now because he’s been a little more rough with her lately.  She also can scoot herself backwards while on her tummy.  I have a feeling she’ll be full on moving much quicker than I want her to.  She babbles all the time and is a shrieker!!IMG_8242Loves/Hates:  She loves to sit up and play with her basket of toys.  Owen only allows her to play with certain trucks and cars, but she does love when she can get her hands on anything that’s not a “baby toy.”  She loves her jumperoo and likes to be in on all the action.  She loves bath time, especially now that she can sit up just like her brother without anything holding her.IMG_8196She loves to kick her legs.  Anytime you lay her on her back, this is what she does.  She’ll do it for awhile before putting herself to sleep.Feeding:  She is still a great nurser. She typically just nurses on one side unless it’s before bedtime.  I love nursing at this stage.  She gets so excited before diving into the boob.   She is getting a little more distractable, so we usually have to go nurse in her room to be sure she eats everything.    But onto the more fun things: “real” food!  She’s doing a great job eating.  I’m pretty lazy with this, so she only gets it about once a day.  She is the messiest eater which drives me crazy.  So far, she has had:

butternut squash
avocado
pears
apples
peas
sweet potato
banana (poor girl’s tummy was a mess after these)
rice cereal IMG_8232-2Sleep: she’s a great napper.  Usually 3 a day.  One early morning, one right around lunch and the last one later in the afternoon.  I nurse her and she’ll put herself to sleep.  Nighttime sleep is awful right now though.  I feel like she’s reverted back to newborn sleep and is up every 2 hours or so “needing” the boob.  We’re about ready to do a little night weaning tough love. :)  This momma’s tired.IMG_8244 Other stuff: She is going through some major stranger anxiety.  I tried to leave her in the nursery for a Mom2Mom event and I got paged within about 10 minutes.  But she finally recognizing William as her dad though and she gives him the biggest smiles!IMG_8219Except for once or twice, she continues to leave things on her head!  I’m one happy momma about this one.IMG_8209And of course, she’s still madly in love with her brother.  She lights up when he comes in the room and watches his every move. I pray they continue to be good friends!IMG_8282 Such an amazing little person.  We love you Ellison Jakeh!

first food!

I don’t know what possessed me tonight.  I swore I wasn’t going to start “real” food with Ellie until 6 months.  Purely out of laziness in that breastfeeding is quite easy right now.  But she’s been so interested my food lately.  And I had a perfectly ripe avocado.  So I broke down and gave her some tonight.  By the 2nd bite in, she was opening her mouth for the spoon like a pro.  Uh oh.  What did I do? :)  I would post the video.  But I’m not even sure Grandparents would find it interesting.IMG_7650

Happy 7 Months!

7 months! Wow. That means we're on the downhill slope to 1 year. So hard to believe.

Measuring
At our seven month appointment, he measured 20 pounds even, which puts him in the 76th percentile. He was 27 1/4" which is the 41th percentile. His head is still on the smaller side at 43.6 cm which is the 30th percentile. His bucket seat only goes to 22 pounds so I'm glad we went ahead and bought the bigger car seat. I think he likes being a little higher up and able to see more.

New Things He's Learning/DoingThere's so much I'm sure I'll leave something out. We're starting to hear more consonant sounds in his talk. Won't be long before we hopefully hear those mamas/dadas. He sits up great and loves to reach for toys. He's great at scooping up what he wants and I really have to watch now where I sit him down at, especially when he's hanging out with me in the kitchen in the bumbo. He can switch a toy to the other hand and he's starting to bang toys together (clapping soon?). He loves his puppets, especially the cow one he got for Christmas. He loves to grab his toes and eat them.He loves to touch/pinch people's noses. When he gets excited to see you, he'll burrow into your neck. One of my all time favorite things right now is when he looks at things, he'll tip his head to the right side. We ask him if it's easier to see things when he looks at them sideways. It's adorable.Other tidbits:
When does separation anxiety start? Because I think we're there. I mean, I've always been his favorite, but now he'll cry HARD if he sees me, but then go in a different room. Or for example, I was at church and Pam was holding him while Aubrey and I were visiting. He looked over at me and started crying. But the minute he got in my arms, he broke into a huge smile. Stinker.

Food:
I don't want to jinx myself but as of now, we don't have a picky eater on our hands. Thankfully. He'll eat pretty much every food we give him, although anything with texture he isn't a huge fan of. A few of the foods I made I couldn't get very smooth (carrots, green beans, sweet peas) so I've had to do store bought ones for those. He loves to help hold the spoon and bring it to his mouth. This results in quite the mess but I guess you've gotta learn somehow.
As of now, here's his list of foods he's tried in order of how much he likes them:
prunes
apples, pears, peaches
plums - loved these but holy cow we had some major blow outs, so he won't be getting those again for awhile
carrots
avocado, butternut squash, sweet potato
beans & peas
banana
rice cereal
oatmeal cereal
Sleep
See months 1-6.

Me

I'm doing pretty good. I've had some brutal times with God lately. Just getting really scared about asking him where we're supposed to live at. I've enjoyed knitting and crafting and am even going to speak at our Mom2Mom group about the chapter in our book about hobbies. I hope that someday Owen will take a longer than 30 minute nap so I can actually get some things knit for my Etsy store!

William

Well, William got let go from his job on Friday. Yep, I think he was more upset that he didn't get to quit. Lack of work, blah, blah, blah. He's never liked this job, but it was paying our bills. And getting us cheap rent because we're staying in his boss' condo. So just pray for us that 1) William gets a new job quick and 2) we can find a new place to live quick.

week of new developments

Owen's been busy this week figuring out new things! On Monday, October 18th, he rolled over for the first time! He rolled from his front to his back (to the right). This video is NOT of him rolling over. He has yet to repeat it. But I did want to document the day. :)

He also got a new noise this week that's pretty cute, but its a hard one to describe. Put your lips together tight and act like you're spitting through them,. It's adorable. The other development is NOT adorable. Pinching. The face, the neck, the arms, the boobs. He's got quite the pincher grasp, especially when he's mad or frustrated.

And lastly, this morning we attempted rice cereal. We got the ok from the doctor because of his (huge) size and great head control. I was going to wait until 5 months, but I'm pleading with God hoping that maybe some cereal helps with his sleeping. I know, I know it probably won't. But a mom can hope right? He didn't seem too interested and only had about 10 little sips total, but we'll try again for dinner. My So Easy Baby Food Kit arrived this week and I'm so excited to start making his food next week and getting it ready to go! I'll leave you with 2 (boring) videos of his first cereal experience!

making baby food

I'm already looking into lots of yummy recipes for making baby food (I know a little early, but so fun). Chronicles of a Babywise Mom has a great giveaway going on, so I'm posting here to score another entry in the contest. Looks like a great kit to get started! Check out her post about it: HERE.
