new hair!

As the weather starts to warm up, I always get the itch to add some color back to my hair.  But with our budget as it stands I just couldn't bite the bullet for highlights knowing the upkeep they take.  So I was telling this to my sister and she suggested getting the ombre.  The what you ask?  A little help from our friend Google will turn up all kinds of hits like http://ombrehair.org/ and a few of my inspiration pictures:

So basically, it's color from the bottom up.  No roots to worry about?  Sign me up.  I made an appointment with Tasia, my gal at John George Salon here in Savoy.  She's not my sister, but she's the next best thing.  Little did I know that this process would take 3.5 hours from start to finish.  Poor William wasn't anticipating that when I left for my "hair cut." :)  Here were the steps.

 

First we talked about how much I wanted cut.  Then we talked color.  I wanted it noticeable, but not super blonde.  Then she went and mixed my color.

 

Then came a long step.  She took small sections and ratted my hair.  I mean took a comb and teased the life out of the section.  This was so there wouldn't be a line where the color started.  Then she put the color on the small part that was left and foiled it.

 

Next we had to figure out how to get all that hair under the dryer.  She pinned it up and shoved it all inside a shower cap.  Then under the heat I went for another 40 minutes.  I don't think I have sat still for 40 minutes since having babies.  But I could do nothing else.  So I read People and sipped my Diet Coke and just relished in the few minutes to myself. :)

 

Then came the not-so-fun part.  Even after several washes, we learned that my hair holds tease really well.  If 80's hair came back, I would be set to go.  So armed with a bottle of conditioner, leave in conditioner, and detangler Tasia set to work on getting all the rats out that she had purposefully put in.  At one point, another gal came over to help because it was taking so long.  All I can say is ouch.  Who knew I should have taken advil before a hair appointment?  But 45 minutes later, everything was finally combed out.  She washed it a couple more times and we were finally ready for the cut and style.  She wasn't going to let me out of there without the final step of curling it.  And I'm glad she made me. . because it was gorgeous. I am so so happy with the final product.  Now if only my at home curls looked this good.

 

 

haircut

Well, if you remember, Owen’s last hair cut was pretty. . .hairy.  Ba-dum-dum.  :)  We had one outing this week and it was to get his hair cut again.  We had already cancelled once and he needed it very badly.  So I started hyping it up and promised him ice cream if he didn’t cry and let Ms. Tasia cut his hair.  Well folks, the bribery worked.  He did awesome, even putting his head down or to the side while she needed to cut.  Marble Slab was closed, so we headed to DQ to get his special treat!  Why do little boys look so big when they get their hair cut?

another hair cut!

Owen’s last hair cut a cheapie “salon” was, well, awful.  We were trying to hold out for Aunt Jenna to come home to cut his hair.   But she’s trying not to check any bags and hence, can’t bring her shears in her carry ons.  So today, I took Owen to the gal I tried last month, Tashia (like Asia with a T) at the John George Salon over by us in Savoy.  She did a great job with mine and did awesome with this little guy.  He started off happy (with the huge sucker I brought for bribery. But don’t let the pictures deceive you.  Soon after they were taken, he started melting down and refusing to hold still.  Tashia and another gal did an awesome job of trying to distract him while I put him on my lap and ended up having to hold his head for a few cuts.  The gal next to Tashia even pulled out her phone to try and show Owen pictures of her tractor.  Ellie just watched in dismay from the stroller. :) It needs to grow just a bit more in the back to fix what the last gal did to it, but overall, it looks much better for our pictures next week!

Pinned It, Did It Monday {headband and glowsticks}

Good Monday afternoon to you all.  Welcome to Pinned It, Did It Monday where I attempt to show you some of the things I’ve done from Pinterest, not just “pinned” to my boards.   This week has been crazy, so just 2 small ones for ya today.I’m always looking for adorable, easy headgear for Ellison.  And this one looked super sweet.

My pictures: My review:  If you can thread a needle and you have a hot glue gun, you can do this one.  No sewing machine needed.  Super fast (10 minutes or so) and so cute.  I might have to rummage through my closet for some old t-shirts to make some more!I’m always love a good idea for Owen.  This site is chalk full of them!  This idea is for glow sticks in the bath tub.

My review:  I got a pack of glow sticks from the dollar store.  Threw them in and turned off the lights.  I think he would have stayed in there all night.  He LOVED it!!  We hid them in cups, twirled them really fast and made them into bracelets.  I will definitely be keeping a pack of these near the tub for those days he doesn’t want to get clean!  So fun!

haircut!

The adorable hair cut my sister gave Owen was getting pretty shaggy, so today we decided it was time for both the guys to get their haircut.  We just went to the BoRics over by us. And while it’s no fancy salon, the gal did a great job with Owen and William’s hair doesn’t look to bad either.  :) Owen cried pretty hard for most of the haircut, even with the sucker to help.  But he loved sitting in the chair by himself, watching Daddy get a hair cut.  How come hair cuts make little boys look so much older?
