convertible car seat

I know it's a little early to be researching convertible car seats! But the way this little guy is growing, I know I'm going to have to give up my beloved bucket seat earlier than I want to! And we'll need to be stashing away the extra cash for it. :) So I just thought I'd ask out there in mommy-land which seat you got and why. I'm leaning towards the Britax Marathon, but there are SO many options out there. Help!

  1. we bought a graco my ride 65 for auggie from babyland. we were thinking about the britax marathon but the graco was cheaper and nearly the same safety-wise according to the babyland guy. (5 star vs 4, but barely so.) and while I didn't care while we were looking, the cup/snack holders are *amazing*!!! besides that, we've used it both rear and forward facing and really like the incline, and the straps are super easy to adjust. I have never regretting buying this car seat as opposed to the britax - we love it!! (although I have heard great things about th britax.) oh, and it goes up to 65lbs which is great!

  2. We did the Graco Comfort Sport for our guys and it's been fantastic for us! I wanted one that would be comfortable for them when their legs hung over the end. The Comfort Sport does that for my boys really well. And the cup holder can be moved to either side which is great considering we've had a righty and a lefty! :)

  3. See, I knew there was a reason I should've asked. I never thought about cup holders. :) Thanks ladies!

  4. We have a Britax Boulevard. It was pricey but I LOVE it. One thing to keep in mind is you can keep Owen in the bucket car seat for a lot longer than you're going to want lug him around in it. We just treated Grace's infant carrier like we would have a convertible by leaving the seat in the car. The longer you do that the more time you have to save $ and the later the expiration date on the new convertible you get.

  5. Definitely cup holders, especially as he gets older! I suggest one seat that can grow with him as long as possible. Less cost overall.

Also, remember that a huge price increase might mean only a slight increase in safety/quality. So is that really worth it in the long run? Lizzy's 11 now so I have no idea what's out there now.

Have you checked Consumer Reports? If not, you can get it through the library website with your library card number. Ratings and everything that usually requires a paid subscription. :-)

  6. I LOVE Bella's Britax Roundabout. They (Britax) have the best rating on consumer reports (taking like the top 3 spots), and this is just one area where I'm happy to spend the extra money and NOT cut corners! Bella's is rated 5-50 pounds and is convertible, so she'll have it forever. Her head doesn't 'slump' in it like I've seen some kids!
